Echo Tom on what attracted me to your work - it's energy and dynamism; hadn't seen anyone else draw like you do. Still working with you to unlock my own intuitive artistic voice. Your essay is thought provoking; I'll have to re read a few times and let it absorb - thank-you

Haha thank you Carolynn, yes this post is possibly a bit overly wordy... I really wanted to gather all my thoughts about this process in one place and have it documented, at least for myself, possibly for others in the exhibition too but it's not super relevant to figure drawing really. Thank you for reading though!!

Thank You Siobhan,

I was attracted to your work with Drawing Life because of this intuitive spirit . Using gesture , expressive mark making , feeling , energy and motion. Charcoal. I still feel carful about organization , proportion and all the classical concerns because they are canons of beauty that I want to include , but the artistic voice that I wish to develop is in this direction that you are revealing.

Hi Tom. I was thinking of you and your work a lot actually, and your approach is so thought-provoking in terms of how to work with this intuitive aspect throughout a longer and more sustained drawing, and how to work towards a more resolved expression that still rings true to the first impulse. I'm very keen to unpack this in our weekly calls over the next while.

I like the idea of having the piece be discovered. Recently I've been trying to follow your advice to respond, react in one line to my subject. It takes courage to do that but it does open the door to new discoveries. Trusting the process over correctly measuring each mark is a challenge too, but rewarding. Continue on, explore, be willing to fail and then continue.
