Thanks for this reminder, Siobhan. I've been attending life drawing sessions here in Montreal, Canada for the last 2 months or so. Already I see a lot of development. One thing I've been contemplating is my love to draw big. I rarely fit the whole figure into the page. It doesn't feel natural for me to draw small. I've found that sometimes I come up with quite interesting compositions which delight me. I always start with what I find most beautiful — a curve, a line, some light or shadow. I love your approach. It's honouring. Thank you x

Hi Sara! yes! life drawing is such a good opportunity to draw large scale, mostly because that's the energy that we meet when drawing from the model, so it's always great to break away from small, sketchbook size drawings. I also love to draw standing, I find that really helps. Composition comes in time, and if you are enjoying the interesting work that comes from your compositions currently, that's perfect. I can suggest a good tip that always helps me for scaling a drawing to fit on the page: start with a really, very very light underdrawing of the torso, if you locate that on your page first, you'll find that you'll be able to fit the rest of the figure in the drawing. Hope that helps!

Mmm. Thanks, Siobhan. that's helpful. I usually do with some aspect of the torso or shoulder. A very light underdrawing is a great idea. Will try that! I just watched your 'Learn how to draw the figure in 1 minute' video -- some great tips there, too I will try at the next class. Thanks so much!
