We have officially come to the end of our first season of the Book Club here at Drawing Life!
The Natural Way to Draw, by Kimon Nicolaides
Well done everyone who tuned in each week, read through the chapters and gave the exercises a try. And a HUGE thank you to everyone who shared their drawings in the weekly chats every Friday. It was so exciting and inspiring to see the drawings, and to note significant triumphs, huge progress, and new creativity emerge.
On Monday we had a small group call to wrap up the study club and share insights. Thank you so much for a really insightful conversation around this book, and our approach in studying it together over the last few months. Together we discussed what worked for us, what aspects of the book we resonated with most, and what were the main takeaways and outcomes.
The common themes that all of us found incredibly useful were:
Gesture exercises as a powerful way to draw the feeling of the pose
Weight and Modeled drawing was very helpful
Treating shadow by following the shape of the form, not a flat tone.
I’ve organized all posts pertaining to this season of the Book Club in the Drawing Life Substck page, so if you want to refer back to any of the chapters or exercises we did throughout the weeks, you can find them all under one tab:
If you would like access to the book study club, to the weekly prompts and chats, consider joining the paid membership, starting at $6 per month.
