Hey everyone, I hope your summer / winter months are going really well. I’m currently enjoying the Irish summer “heatwave”. No really, it is a thing…. lol. And, no matter the heatwave, the West of Ireland is always cool and rainy.
While I’m here I’ve managed to squeeze in some life drawing, and I’m also facilitating the Drawing Life Cohort which has been nothing short of amazing. I’m blown away by the quality of work, commitment and incredible progress from the group.
So proud! 🫶
I will share more about it once we wrap up, and also share more about my plans to run another Cohort in the future, because it has been so transformative.
In the meantime, I’m re-opening registrations for the Gesture Drawing Masterclass. 🥳
This program is a great intro to the dynamic and expressive approach that I teach in all my courses. It’s a focused, intensive 4-week course along with weekly meet-ups online, and an engaged and supportive community inside the group.
If you attend life drawing regularly (and even if you don’t!) and you know that you want to access a more expressive, powerful and responsive way of capturing the pose of the figure, then this program will unlock that for you.
If you’re new here and don’t know what Gesture Drawing is:
To me, it’s a foundational and essential aspect of life drawing. Gesture is the key to drawing life, and from there all else follows.
It’s an approach and a technique that helps you to connect deeply with your own drawing process - your natural way to draw and to express - and it helps you to connect with the subject in a very immediate and direct way.
I know that you know…
There is so much MORE to drawing the figure than simply copying the physical aspects in a two-dimensional way: ie trying to make a drawing that matches a photo… Rather, and especially in life drawing, there is something present that is channeled through the physical aspects. This is something real, that can be drawn, and importantly is something that is worth drawing.
And the gesture can “represent” or express the figure (aka, the person) in just as profound and meaningful a way as a photo realistic, or “accurate” drawing of the anatomy can.
That’s what you’ll learn to unlock in the Gesture Drawing Masterclass, PLUS….
The side effect of learning gesture drawing is that you end up developing a deeply personal visual language that helps you to feel confident in your own expression. Honestly, is there anything more important than this?
“Sometimes the most realistic thing about an artwork is the way it makes you feel.”
I’d love you to join me in the group and start to explore these techniques

FAQs
Here are some very frequently asked questions, with my responses. If you have any other questions, just hit reply to this email.
Q: How much time does the course take each week? And how long do students have access to the videos and material?
The course materials are video lessons, divided into 4 modules so that each aspect of expressive and dynamic drawing can be broken down. You can watch these at any time that you want, and you have lifetime access to this course.
Most people find that working through 1 module per week is sufficient to really get to grips with the concepts and tackle the exercises. Many students re-vist the video lessons again after completing the course.
Q: How does feedback work inside the community?
When you post your assignments I will give you personalized and detailed feedback on each one. And each month of your membership there will be live workshops and group calls with me where we draw together. You’ll find that everyone in the community group is incredibly supportive and will give constructive feedback on each other’s work so peer feedback is very much a part of the experience.
Q: How long do students have access to the community forum?
You have 8 weeks of access to the community, and lifetime access to the course materials. If you’d like to continue with ongoing support and learning about figure drawing, there is an option after the 8 weeks to join the monthly membership tier, and details about that are posted within the community page.
